From feathers to flight: Feather Factory Drone Survey and 3D reality capture DEMO

To intiate the journey of Dronue, we had to showcase our skills, showcase our stunning detailed models and let people see the power of Dronue for themselves. The weather was dry, skies were blue with little to no wind, and the our advanced drone and GNSS receiver was ready for action. It was Drone Survey time!

We first obtained accurate global positions of some ground control points with our RTK corrected GNSS receiver. Once those were established, it was time to link the drone with GNSS receiver and perform a test flight. Flight went smoothly, didn't crash so good result I guess...

After a successfil test flight, it was time to get to work. The first flight involved a Nadir flight at about 80ft. and 90% image overlap. This was done to capture the general birds eye view of the site. Once that was complete, it was time for some upclose and personal manual flying!

Flying through all these derelict buildings, with overhead cables absolutely everywhere was not an easy task. One mistake, and it would of been a bad and expensive day... Luckilly it all went smoothly, and 3,663 photos later, we decided that we had enough data to give the model a go.

Out went the SD card into the computer, photos downloaded, and my disk space crying (Toshiba please sponsor us). Now with all the georeferenced images downloaded, it is time to stitch them all together and create a life like virtual site model. After hours of graft, and 12 whole hours of processing, the model was finally reconstructed.

The model was uploaded to a third party digital 3D viewer, they work with the likes of Epic Games, they are really good.... This allows you to view your site absolutely anywhere, on any internet connected device. They run the model on their powerful servers and livestream the model to you, I promise your device would thank you for that if it could. Having an old and slow computer or not having specialised 3D modelling software to open and view the model is not an excuse anymore!

Feel free to have a look at our demo page where you can see and play around with the model yourself at : www.dronue.com/demo.

The derelict feather factory came back to life in digital form, allowing for virtual site visits, close up original photo inspection, highly accurate measureement and much more. It was tough but we did it, now onto the next!
